Elements of children’s, adult social care, IT, legal, library and community safety services have now shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Within the business and environment portfolio, town centre developments at Waterdale’s Savoy Cinema and the railway station forecourt have been suspended. Weed spraying, grass cutting of highway verges, parks and playing fields has also been shut down.

A council spokesman said: “We are having to suspend some activities and services to make sure that we can continue to deliver the most important services and support the most vulnerable people. Thank you for your understanding and patience at this difficult time.”

Household waste and recycling centres have also ceased activity along with the closure of Colonnades and Civic Quarter car parks. Other car parks currently remain open.

Within adult social care, SMILE Day Services have been suspended and support for residents is being given from care providers to maintain day activities.

The council has also suspended providing sensory equipment delivery or repairs and non-emergency Learning Disabilities Respite.

In arts and leisure, frontline library services in all 25 branches, including Central Library have all closed, but ebooks are still operating.

Cusworth Hall is now closed to the public and council officials have fenced off the playground. All museum activities are closed and events cancelled.

Prison libraries are still open but with reduced hours. A further assessment will be made in the coming days.

Over 25 measures dealing with schools including SEN mediation, fixed penalty notices for attendance and distributing new funding allocation to schools, has been put on hold.

FOI responses, routine internal audits, new marriage bookings until the end of June, birth registrations unless deemed an emergency, and all council meetings except urgent planning and licensing hearings have now stopped.

Latest figures from Public Health England show that Doncaster has 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The hospital announced its first coronavirus death on Monday. The patient, who was in their 50s, had underlying health conditions, the trust’s medical director Dr Tim Noble said.
