Long serving Doncaster Council boss who swapped Australia for South Yorkshire retires

A leading Doncaster Council boss who swapped the Australian sunshine for South Yorkshire has retired after 16 years of service in Civic Office.

Peter Dale, who heads up the environment and regeneration team, was responsible for driving through infrastructure projects across the borough alongside responsibility for things like fly-tipping, waste and planning.

Paying tribute to Mr Dale, chief executive Damian Allen said he thanked him for his “dedicated service to the borough”.

Mr Dale, who originally hails from Adelaide, South Australia, held a number of executive positions in his hometown before heading to Doncaster in 2004.

Mr Allen said: “Peter moved to the UK in 2004 to take up the position of director of development with Doncaster Council and remained until his retirement.

“During this time with the council, Peter has been instrumental by working with partners in delivery transformational infrastructure programmes within the borough amongst building the community stadium (Keepmoat).

“He was also key to the development of the town centre as a civic and cultural quarter and the redevelopment of Doncaster Racecourse alongside the link-road to the airport.

“These initiatives have boosted the local economy, created many jobs and increased the footfall of people visiting our borough.”

Dan Swaine, formerly or North East Derbyshire and Bolsover councils, has already been appointed as Mr Dale’s successor.
