Mayor Ros Jones has said the council will pay £250 per person with a maximum of £500 per household on top of the Government scheme, provided people meet strict criteria.

People eligible will have been told to stay at home and self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, either because they have tested positive for coronavirus or have recently been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Those eligible will be employed or self-employed and unable to work from home and will lose earnings as a result of self-isolating.

Other criteria include those not currently receiving Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit and/or Pension Credit.

People must not be a full-time student, not have accessible capital more than £6,000, regularly work at least 16 hours per week, and have gross weekly earnings of between £100 to £280 per week, have a gross hourly rate as per the national minimum/living wage, or have a gross hourly rate no more than £9 per hour and have housing costs.

Applications should take three working days to be processed and the payments are available for those who were told to self-isolate after January 27.

The mayor, in her ‘six-point plan,’ also includes supporting the vaccination programme and scaling up targeted testing along with small grants for voluntary and charity groups and payments for the most vulnerable adults, communities and families.

Mayor Jones said: “We are coming up to a year since our lives were changed so dramatically due to Covid-19. I don’t think anyone could have predicted the events of the last 12 months.

“With this plan, Doncaster Council and Team Doncaster colleagues will support mass vaccination and testing rollouts, help our most vulnerable residents in our communities, support businesses and help residents get back to work.

“I am so very proud of Doncaster and how our residents, communities and businesses have pulled together and supported one another during such difficult times.”
