New gym equipment has been installed at near Askern Lake – althought a planned launch today (Saturday) had to be postponed because of the wind and rain.

The equipment has been installed with money from the National Lottery and from Askern Town Council.

Long serving Askern Town councillor Francis Jackson has already tried the equipment out. He said: “We’ve put in in proximity to the children’s play equipment so that parents can use these and exercise while their children are using the playground, although it seems to be an attraction for the children too, as we’ve seen them using the equipment.”

A launch event with a training expert was due today.

Town clerk Laura Waude said: “Unfortunately it has been necessary to cancel today's opening event due to inclement weather conditions. Details of the rescheduled event to follow.”
