Coronavirus: Changes to Doncaster bin collections

Doncaster Council has suspended one waste collection service, as it attempts to deal with the spread of the virus in the borough.

Green bin collections are currently suspended but household waste and other recycling collections will remain unaffected.

The move is to prioritise other collections during the global pandemic.

Items which can be put in a green bin include grass cuttings, plants and weeds, prunings, twigs, leaves, hedge clippings and old or dead houseplants.

Green bin collections usually take place every fortnight between March and November.

A Doncaster Council spokesman said: “Household waste and recycling bin collections remain unaffected.

“The collection of green bins has been temporarily paused effective from March 23, to allow our services to prioritise other collections at this time.”

Responding on Twitter, Craig Parkinson said: “I can understand the reason behind increasing black bin and blue bin collections. However, can green bin collections be allowed to happen albeit less frequently than every two weeks?
