14 schools in Doncaster to get Government cash for repairs

A number of Doncaster schools are set to receive a chunk of Government cash for repairs and improvements to buildings.

Some 14 schools across the three Doncaster constituencies will receive a share of £434 million to expand classrooms, upgrade facilities aiming to improve the learning of children across the country.

On top of this, the Prime Minister has also announced a new 10-year school rebuilding programme. This will be kick-started with over £1 billion for the first 50 projects in 2020-21, the Department for Education has said.

In the Don Valley constituency, Coppice primary school in Hatfield is in line for fire safety and roofing works.

Hill Top Academy in Edlington will receive money for ‘structural repairs and Dunsville primary will get new fire doors.

In the Doncaster Central constituency, six schools will receive cash for building upgrades.

Tranmoor Primary School in Armthorpe will receive funds for flat roof replacements and extra fire safety measures while Armthorpe Shaw Wood Academy will have funds available for electrical rewiring and extra fire detection equipment.

Hungerhill School in Edenthorpe and Lakeside Primary Academy are both in line for roof repairs.

Southfield and Sandringham primary schools in Armthorpe and Intake will both receive money for fire safety and precaution works.

In the Doncaster North constituency, five schools will receive money for building upgrades.

Owston Primary School in Skellow will get funds for a re-roofing project and extra fire safety precautions while Bentley High Street Primary School will have a new pitched roof.

Campsmount Academy in Norton is in line for new fencing while Norton Primary School will receive urgent pipeworks and emitter replacement.

Highwoods Academy in Mexborough will have money for extra fire safety measures.

Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher, said: “Coronavirus has taken a toll on us all, not least our children, who have been kept from their friends, their teachers and their schools.

“As we exit lockdown we must focus on getting children back to school – and ensure that schools have the facilities and classrooms they need to support the high-quality education our children deserve.

“This funding will help ensure all children have the very best possible schools and education, enabling them to gain all the knowledge and skills they need for success.”
