Police launch appeal for witnesses after a fatal collision in Mexborough

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision yesterday evening (January 4).

Emergency services were called at 5.25pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Greens Way, opposite Mexborough train station.

It is reported that a black BMW travelling from the direction of Swinton was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, crossing Greens Way towards the town centre.

The pedestrian, a 68-year-old man from Mexborough, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

The BMW driver, a 22-year-old man from Mexborough, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Officers want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen the vehicle prior.
