PICTURES: Doncaster town centre pub gets new look

Urban Bar in Cleveland Street is being given a full refurbishment - but will remain open during the work, which started this week.

The front of the bar will see a full face lift with new structure work, a new colour scheme, new signage and new lighting.

Interior work has now been finished with a new colour scheme throughout to give a "homely and welcoming feel" for customers.

The beer garden has also had a deep clean with new flower displays, a new outdoor 48 inch TV, a summer cocktail menu and also an outdoor DJ hut ready for the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Spokesman Paul Roidl, director for UPG, which runs the Urban Bar & Lounge said: "I am really pleased with the proposed work and I know our regulars will love the new look.

"We have changed our uniforms and recruited well as we continue to work hard to attract new customers to the venue. We now have new DJ's catering for our varied customer base and once people see what entertainment we offer they come back time and again."

The pub has held a number of names over the years including The Great Northern, The Blue Lion and Pineapple and is perhaps best known as the Saracen's Head.

It has been a busy few days for Doncaster's pub and club scene.

Last week, Frank & Stein, a new German themed "sausages and beer" bar opened its doors for the first time on Silver Street while in the last few days, The Priory nightclub in Lazarus Court and The Old Angel on Cleveland Street have both closed their doors - although both are set to re-open as new venues in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Nelsons on the corner of Cleveland Street and Printing Office Street, which is next door to Urban and a stone's throw from The Old Angel, is set to re-open under its original name of the Lord Nelson.
