Pick a pumpkin in time for Halloween

t's a tradition that dates back to 19th Century Ireland but carving a pumpkin is still one of the most popular Halloween pastimes.

And with the spooky day just around the corner destinations across the region are gearing up to welcome families eager to pick the perfect pumpkin.

The Pink Pig Farm in Scunthorpe is now hosting the annual Halloween Pumpkin Festival.

The event takes place until October 31. Tickets can be purchased online or on the day, but visitors are strongly advised to pre-book to save disappointment.

Visitors can enjoy a number of themed activities such as; meeting Windle the witch in her eerie coven, a creepy walk through the woodland, spectate the unusual sport of maggot racing, pumpkin picking and carving,  mystical potion making and specially themed food and drink.

The Pink Pig is also offering all its usual indoor and outdoor play to enjoy including Piggy Tail Lane, play barn and farm park,  small animal handling, tractor trailer rides and the animal trail.

The farm is also set to host a '˜spooktacular' Halloween themed party on Friday,  October 26. Tickets for which can be purchased online.

Sally Jackson, owner of The Pink Pig Farm, said: 'We've been busy getting ready for this years Pumpkin Festival, and we're so excited! Some of our previous activities will be used again, but we've actually got a few things planned that we've never done before. I highly advise people to pre-book tickets, as some of our more recent events have completely sold out!'

Families wanted to travel a bit further afield this Halloween can come along to Cannon Hall Farm Pumpkin Festival at Cannon Hall Farm or Farmer Copleys Pumpkin Festival near Pontefract, featuring over 120,000 pumpkins.

Eastfield Farm, Tickhill is aslo getting into the Halloween spirit with 78,000 pumpkins of various size and colours at the site in Doncaster Road, Tickhill, Doncaster
