Youngster Josh Farrow, seven, who plays for Bessacarr FC, raised £700 for Doncaster charity the Eve Merton Dreams Trust after pulling on his trainers and running 25 miles during lockdown.

And his efforts have earned him the club’s first ever ‘Clubman of the Year’ trophy.

A spokesman said: “A new award for the club and one that we’d never considered doing. However we have had our hand forced this year.

“A massive congratulations to Josh from our U7 Green squad on winning our first ever Clubman’s Trophy.

“During the last lockdown, our first team lads decided they'd take to the streets to raise funds and awareness for the charity Evestrust. We had a fantastic response from the whole club with players, parents and coaches from our other teams joining in. Josh’s parents contacted us to ask if it was ok for Josh to join in. Not a problem was the reply thinking we’d get a couple of miles out of the seven year old superstar. 25 miles later and a massive £700 raised on his own for charity, he’s our Clubman of the Year 2020.

An Evestrust spokesman said: “Well Josh, what can we say.......you my friend are a superhero!
