This precious adorable okapi born in December at Yorkshire Wildlife Park has been named
The adorable okapi calf born to mum Ruby and dad Stomp on December 27 at Doncaster’s Yorkshire Wildlife Park has officially been named Neo.
Neo means “gift” in Setswana, symbolising new beginnings, and it also has Greek roots meaning “new”.
While Setswana is spoken in southern Africa, the name beautifully reflects hope and renewal for this Central African forest species.
Visitors may be lucky enough to spot Ruby and Neo through the window of YWP’s Okapi House, located between Land of the Tiger and the Kirk’s dik-diks. Keep an eye out for this very special little newcomer on your next visit.
