The hit BBC One show, penned by Kay Mellor began last week with the second episode screening last night – with clips from the programme showing off Doncaster’s airport in all its glory.

It is one of a number of Yorkshire locations in the series about a betting syndicate who are cheated out of a massive, life-changing lottery win

The show stars Line of Duty’s Neil Morrissey, Gaynor Faye, Katherine Rose Morley and Joe Sugg and tells the story of a group of dog walkers who win an unbelievable £27million in the lottery after joining forces… but are told they only won a few hundred.

Their local shop owner then jets off seemingly with their winnings in tow, travelling from Yorkshire to Monaco to no doubt make the most of his stolen millions.

Despite being filmed during the pandemic, the makers of The Syndicate managed to travel around a fair bit to authentically capture the different locations in the drama, from the north of England to the French Riviera.

Said Mellor: “There were parts of Yorkshire I wanted to touch on, like Otley and Ilkley and Burley in Wharfedale.

"The area is so beautiful but not many people shoot there,’ she told RadioTimes.com.

‘I’ve shot a lot in Leeds…I wanted to show off somewhere else. That’s why I picked The Chevin and Ilkley Moor and all round there.’

The series also includes Burley, a village in Bradford, as well as Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire and the market town of Otley.

And it is not the first time Doncaster Sheffield Airport – formerly known as Robin Hood Airport – has featured in television and film.

2010 Chris Morris film Four Lions used the airport as a filming location while scenes from Yorkshire ITV soap Emmerdale have also been shot there.

The BBC comedy series Come Fly With Me, starring David Walliams and Matt Lucas, a spoof documentary series about a low cost airline, was also filmed at the airport.
