Sandall Park has seen rubbish bins overflowing and empty cartons and food wrappers scattered around since the re-opening of the fried chicken chain’s branch on Thorne Road last week.

Now Sandra Crabtree of Friends of Sandall Park, the organisation which looks after the green space, has called on diners to take their rubbish home with them.

In a post on Facebook she wrote: “You'll be aware that KFC is now open for drive-through.

“And so it came to pass - that suddenly the park bins are overflowing, with, you've guessed it - KFC takeaway containers.

“So please folks, if you can see the bins are full - take your rubbish home?

“It's definitely good that people have used the bins, but they're not bottomless pits. You've obviously gone there in a car for the drive through (I'm sure they don't allow pedestrians) so please, bag it all up and take it home.

“The council are pretty busy at the moment so we need to cut them some slack for emptying bins.”

The branch near Sandall Park, Wheatley has been inundated with hungry customers since bouncing back into business last Tuesday.

Last week, huge queues were reported stretching along Thorne Road with some customers waiting for two hours to get their order.

A KFC spokesman urged customers not to ‘rush all at once’ for their fried chicken fix.
