Allis, the oldest of a pride of lions rescued from Romania in 2010, was put to sleep yesterday on welfare grounds.
In a statement, Yorkshire Wildlife Park said: “With a heavy heart, we are sad to announce the passing of Allis, our oldest rescued Romanian lion.

Allis was among a pride of 13 lions brought to Doncaster for a better life after being found living in cramped conditions in a dilapidated Romanian zoo in 2010.
A fundraising appeal launched by Yorkshire Wildlife Park to bring them to Doncaster raised £150,000.
The lions had been due to be put down because the Romanian zoo could no longer afford to keep them.
