Runners' upset as popular Doncaster Parkrun still on hold as lockdown eased

Frustrated runners in Doncaster are still waiting to hear when a popular weekly Parkrun will restart following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Events have restarted across the country in recent weeks, with amateur athletes pulling on their trainers to take part in events all over South Yorkshire including Cusworth Hall.

But the weekly Saturday morning run in Sandall Park, which attracts hundreds of runners, has not yet been given the go-ahead to restart by Doncaster Council

A spokesman for the Parkrun said: “Thank you to everyone who has been in touch in recent days about our event restarting - we are one of just three events in the whole of South Yorkshire that haven't yet been given permission to restart from our landowner.

"The other 24 South Yorkshire parkruns have been given permission, including all events in Sheffield City Council and Rotherham Council parks.

“Fingers crossed we will hear soon, although Doncaster Council gave Cusworth Hall parkrun permission to restart several weeks ago.”
