Hundreds gathered at Doncaster Racecourse as young people achieved the full range of Chief Scout’s Awards and four King’s Scout Awards, while volunteers were honoured for exceptional service at the annual Doncaster Danum Top Awards Presentation Day.
Scout groups from across the Doncaster Danum patch gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn for the annual Presentation Day.
The event brought together hundreds of families, volunteers and supporters for a celebration of achievement, service and personal development across every section of Scouting.
The ceremony was hosted by David Plant, District Team Member, who welcomed guests and led the afternoon’s programme.
The afternoon recognised young people who achieved the full range of Chief Scout’s Awards, beginning with the Acorn Award in Squirrels and progressing through the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards followed by the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Chief Scout’s Diamond Awards.
The celebrations continued with senior achievements including Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates and the Explorer Belt, alongside the presentation of four Kings Scout Awards.
Together these honours reflect sustained commitment, adventure, leadership and personal growth and highlight the strength of the Scouting programme across Doncaster.
This year’s Kings Scout Award recipients were Samuel Finn, John Micklethwaite, Evie Booth and Grace Hallgate.
The Kings Scout Award is the highest youth honour in UK Scouting and is granted only to young people who show exceptional dedication, leadership and community service.
Each recipient received warm applause for reaching this distinguished milestone.
Youth awards were presented by Samuel Finn and Paige Werrett, the Joint District Youth Lead Volunteers. Both play a key role in ensuring that young people have a meaningful voice in shaping Scouting across Doncaster Danum and their involvement reflected the district’s commitment to youth leadership.
Adult awards were presented by James Hagyard, the District Programme and Events Team Lead.
These recognised the dedication of volunteers who give their time every week to make Scouting possible. Long service awards, merit awards and special recognitions were presented to individuals whose efforts have supported young people for many years.
A major moment in the afternoon was the presentation of the Silver Wolf to Ann Crocker. The Silver Wolf is the highest award available to adult volunteers in Scouting and is granted only for truly exceptional service. It is presented to those who have delivered outstanding and sustained contributions that have had a real and lasting impact on young people.
Earlier this year Ann was invited to Windsor Castle where she celebrated her achievement with The Duke of Kent.
The district paid tribute to her remarkable commitment which has supported generations of young people in Doncaster.
Throughout the event David Plant guided families and volunteers through a warm and inspiring programme that highlighted achievement, personal growth and the positive difference young people make in their communities.
Speaking at the event, David said, “This day is about celebrating young people who have challenged themselves, pushed their limits and achieved something special. These awards represent hours of teamwork, adventure and learning. They showcase the very best of what Scouting can offer.”
He added: “Our volunteers deserve real recognition. None of this happens without the leaders who give their time every week to provide great programmes and create spaces
where young people can thrive.”
David also said: “Scouting in Doncaster is growing in strength and ambition and it is clear that young people want opportunities to challenge themselves and be part of something positive. We have fantastic volunteers and inspiring young members and together we are building a district that gives every young person the chance to shine.”
Parents, volunteers and district leaders described the celebration as uplifting and energising and praised the sense of pride and community evident throughout the afternoon.
