New district lead volunteer appointed to lead Doncaster Danum Scouts
Doncaster Danum Scouts have announced the appointment of David Plant as the new District Lead Volunteer, marking a significant moment for Scouting across the borough.
David will formally take up the role at the end of January, leading and supporting Scout Groups across Doncaster Danum and helping shape the district’s future direction.
The District Lead Volunteer role provides strategic leadership across all Scout Groups in Doncaster Danum, supporting volunteers, strengthening programme quality and guiding the district’s long term growth so that more young people can benefit from Scouting.
Doncaster Danum District currently supports 1,245 members, with a clear ambition to grow to 1,500 members within the next three years, delivered through 25 strong and sustainable Scout Groups across the borough.

David’s connection to Scouting in Doncaster spans decades.
As a young person, he was a member of the 58th Doncaster Scout Group in Bessacarr.
At the age of 14, he was selected to represent Doncaster alongside five other Scouts from the 58th at the World Scout Jamboree in Chile, an experience that helped shape his confidence, leadership skills and outlook.
He later returned to the World Scout Jamboree at the age of 18, this time in Thailand, where he volunteered as part of the International Service Team, taking on a leadership role supporting the delivery of the event for thousands of young people from across the world.
David currently serves as Group Lead Volunteer for the 58th Doncaster Scout Group, now one of the district’s largest and most active groups.
Under his leadership, the group has grown significantly, delivers a consistently high quality programme and maintains a large waiting list of young people keen to join.
He also recently hosted Doncaster Danum’s Top Awards Presentation Day, celebrating the achievements of over 250 young people from across the district.
The event recognised commitment, resilience and personal development across all sections and highlighted the positive impact Scouting continues to have on young people in Doncaster.
Alongside his Scouting roles, David runs a Doncaster based digital and marketing agency, bringing professional experience in leadership communications and strategic planning to the role.
Speaking about his appointment, David said: “I’m incredibly proud to be taking on the role of District Lead Volunteer for Doncaster Danum. Scouting has played a huge part in my life and I’m passionate about ensuring every young person in Doncaster has access to a safe, exciting and high quality programme.”
He added: “When I was a young person in Scouting, we regularly paraded through Doncaster town centre for St George’s Day, past the Mansion House. It gave us a real sense of pride in both Scouting and our town. Strengthening that connection to Doncaster and restoring a visible civic presence for Scouting is something I would love to see return.”
David’s priorities include supporting volunteers, strengthening leadership teams, improving progression between sections and building a stronger public presence for Scouting across Doncaster.
The appointment has been warmly welcomed by volunteers across the district, many of whom shared messages of support following the announcement.
