Long serving teacher who became head at Doncaster school lands new job

A long-serving teacher who has taught generations at a Doncaster secondary school and who eventually became head is set to move on to a new job after nearly quarter of a century.

Lucie Pond first arrived at Edenthorpe’s Hungerhill School in 2001, rising through the ranks and holding a number of senior roles to become headteacher in 2019.

But after 23 years, she is moving onto pastures new, taking up the role of headteacher at Archbishop Holgate's School in York.

She said: “I have an immense sense of pride when I look back at the school’s journey and think about the impact that staff have had on so many young adults’ lives.

"I still get letters and emails from former students, either thanking me or sharing with me their own successes, where they attribute parts of this to their fantastic secondary experience at Hungerhill School.

“There is a huge part of me which is sad to leave a great group of staff and students and it does feels like this is the end of an era.

"It is a period of change for the school but an exciting period.

"Equally, I am looking forward to embarking on the next chapter in my life, as I take on the role of headteacher at Archbishop Holgate's School in York.”

Mrs Pond joined the school as a curriculum leader and then achieved the AST accreditation in 2003.

Since then, she has held a range of senior leadership posts - as assistant headteacher leading on teaching and learning and then as deputy headteacher, with responsibility for the development of the teaching school.

She became headteacher in September 2019, as Helen Redford- Hernandez’s successor, when she became the CEO of the Brighter Futures Learning Partnership Trust.

She added: “Having taught at the school for what will be 23 years, I have literally taught across generations, with many of the students that I used to teach at the beginning of my career, are now parents themselves with children that attend the school.

“I would like to thank all staff and students that I have worked with over the years, for impacting so positively on my teaching journey.”
