Lidl praised after donating leftover Christmas food to Doncaster area foodbanks

Supermarket giant Lidl has been praised after donating surplus Christmas food to Doncaster area food banks.

The chain handed over left over festive stock to social enterprise organisation Food Aware CIC which will now send the stock to various projects in the area.

A spokesman said: “Huge thanks Lidl GB for this latest amazing donation of surplus food from Mexborough via the neighbourly FoodWaste project

“Our van was filled to the brim with left-over festive stock which will shortly be distributed to our community projects across South Yorkshire.”

Among the projects to benefit will be Mexborough Foodbank, Thorne And Moorends Community Food Bank, Parent and Friends of Addison Maltby Foodbank, Mexborough Family Hub, Denaby and Conisbrough Family Hub, Dearne Valley PDC, Mexborough Community Campus Youth and Community Centre Scallywags and many more.

They added: “Also, huge thanks to everyone who has donated at Lidl. Please keep donating as demand for food parcels significantly increases over the winter period.”
