Key workers to be celebrated for their pandemic heroics by being included in a huge Doncaster festival

The top ten key workers will be displayed in the DN Festival of Light at Doncaster Minster from November 25 to 28.

The winners will be in a special film shoot that will be a part of the festival.

Lizzie Hewitt, marketing and insights officer at Right Up Our Street, said: “There are 43 local heroes nominated and people can vote for three individuals.

“All of the nominees are amazing.

“They range from teachers who have gone above and beyond to make sure that children have had access to as much education as possible this year to NHS nurses who have worked in mental health and end of life care.

“There are people who have worked in childcare, someone who provided meals for staff at DRI and even a bin man.

“We want to be able to shine a light on all of these wonderful Doncaster people who did incredible things during Covid-19.”

All of the nominees have been put forward by members of the Doncaster community who they have helped personally.

“Doncaster is full of wonderful people,” Lizzie said.

“We think it’s really important to show what incredible things people have done for the community.

“It has been a truly wholesome experience learning what these key workers have done.

The DN Festival of Light which was unable to go ahead last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

This year artists Heinrich and Palmer will be creating a stunning piece inside the Minster in collaboration with Right Up Our Street and Heritage Doncaster.
