"He did good his whole life": Friend's tribute to dad to be killed in hit and run

The best friend of a dad to be killed in a Doncaster city centre hit and run has paid an emotional tribute, saying: “He did good his whole life and left light everywhere he went.”

Najib Maghsodi, 26, suffered fatal injuries when he was walking along Prince’s Street last Friday, with police launching a murder investigation, which has seen eight people arrested over the tragedy.

Floral tributes have been laid and money is pouring in for Najib Maghsodi, 26, who suffered fatal injuries in a hit and run in Doncaster city centre.

Floral tributes have begun piling up at the scene outside the Iceland supermarket, while a GoFundMe page set up for his grieving family has raised nearly £3,000.

Najib, who was from Burton on Trent and was working in Doncaster as an electrician, had just finished work and was walking back to his car when he was in collision with a silver Hyundai which failed to stop at the scene.

Stefan Wheeler, 31, of Northgate, Moorends, has been charged with murder and driving offences following the incident and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on July 17.

Now best pal Mohammed Al-Zain has shared an emotional tribute to his pal, who was set to become a dad later this year.

He said: “He never troubled anyone, he left a light wherever he went.

“The movie Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, that was me and Najid.

“My brother, I’ll never forget him.”

He added: “He’s an electrician. He had just finished work and was walking to his car but got hit before he got there.

“He didn’t have a problem with anyone. When he got the news he was gonna be a dad, he was over the moon. He told me “I’m gonna be the best dad ever.”

“He did good his whole life.”

Officers and the ambulance service attended the scene shortly after 8.30pm and Najib was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Yesterday, Najib’s family shared a tribute which read: “Najib was taken from us far too soon. He was the most amazing, kind, and beautiful husband, son, and soon to be dad.

“We are beyond words and the pain is indescribable.”

The family are being supported by specialist officers with police continuing to probe the tragedy, which has also seen a 22-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder while six others arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Another pal, Ali Rehman, has set up a GoFundMe page which you can donate to here https://shorturl.at/MgBZN

He said: “Najib and I grew up together; he was more than a friend, he was my brother.

"At just 26 years young, he was the provider who worked tirelessly to take care of his family. A person that never troubled anyone but brought laughter and left smiles wherever he goes.

“He was an innocent man simply trying to get home.

“As we navigate this heartbreak and wait for justice to be served, we want to ensure Najeeb’s legacy lives on and that his family is not left to struggle in his absence.”

The funds will be used to start a charitable project in Najib’s name, his friend said, while the remainder of the funds will go directly to his family as they try to rebuild their lives without him.
