Despite being born without eyeballs and suffering from a severe heart murmur, four-month-old Darcy is a happy lamb who can be found ‘stomping around’ around Manor Estate Farm- a small, family-run animal sanctuary in Toll Bar.

Now Ami Downs, who set up the farm a year ago when she was just 18, has appealed to Doncaster animal-lovers for help raising £600 for a field shelter which would give Darcy a safe place to graze.

"Because Darcy is blind, she does require a lot of one-on-one care,” said Ami. “She can’t be in a big field and is currently in a small field with temporary fencing.

"A field shelter would be much better for Darcy and we could put the other sheep with her so she has some company.

"We are very aware that Darcy won’t have a long life, but we are determined to give her the best life possible as this is what she deserves.

“She might not be able to see but she certainly has a lot of personality. I’d describe her as a stroppy teenager at the moment.

"Sometimes she walks into the fences and I have to pull her back and she stomps her little feet. She’s very cute.”

Along with two other sheep, Fudge and Teddy, the farm is also home to a variety of other rescue animals including Dez the donkey, Wellington the Shetland pony and pigs Wilbur and Charlotte.
