Friends Richard Crehan, Liam Mellor, and Kev Gaze walked 27 miles from Red Carr FC to Darlington FC last month in aid of Prostate Cancer UK – a challenge which took them nearly eight hours.

Richard, an actor best known for playing Lee Mayhew on Coronation Street, said: “We decided to take on the challenge and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, as it’s a charity very close to Liam’s heart. He has had family members affected by prostate cancer, and decided he wanted to try and raise more awareness, as well as money for this charity, so we came up with the idea of walking from Red Carr to Darlington.

“Kev and I were happy to jump on board and support the cause.”

And Richard admits the challenge was a tough slog: “The walk was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and my legs literally seized up about six hours in. Those last few miles were extremely tough, as was walking for a few days after we’d finished the challenge, but it was all worth it.

“Overall we raised roughly £2,500, so it was well worth our short-lived pain, and hopefully our small donation can help in some way to fight the fight with prostate cancer.”

Liam, who is a pantomime comic, appearing in productions all across the UK, took to the trio’s Just Giving page this week to thank the group’s local supporters, saying: ‘We got a generous donation from the audience of the Pirates of the Pavilion Adult Night of £440. Thank you to everyone that donated. You are all #cracking.’
