He started what has become a daily event after he was challenged to give it a go by Toni Matthews, from the Edlington Community Organisation at the Yorkshire Main Community Centre in the former pit village.

He said: “I tried to get costumes on Ebay, but was told it would take four to five weeks to get anything because it was non essential. Then I put the word out locally about what I was trying to do, and why. Within an hour, I had 30 outfits donated. People are still contributing them. There really are some great people in Edlington.

“I’ve not worn the same outfit twice yet, and I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now.

“The one I really remember, is when I dressed as Elsa from Frozen – I looked quite reastic in the blond wig! I saw a girl in the window at one house. She must have been six or seven. She had her head in her hands and looked fed up. Her eyes lit up and she said ‘Elsa! Mum, Elsa’s outside. Her mum said ‘don’t be daft’. When her mum came to the widow she said something like ‘goodness me, so she is!”

He has a friend giving him advice on make up too, which he says has been a big help.

The 58-year-old has also dressed up as Elvis, Tutankhamun, Snow White, Buzz LIghtyear, Anna out of Frozen 2 an Captain America. His favourite was Tutankhamum, compete with gold face paint, but says the children seem to prefer the Disney characters.

He has Wonderwoman and Cruella Deville costumes on the way!
