Doncaster netball team 'walks to North Pole' to help families hit by baby loss

But rather than the frozen wastelands, players from Thorne Netball Club actually walked between Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Thorne, as part of a gruelling effort throughout February to collcectively walk the distance to the Arctic Circle.
The month of trekking was to help raise money for the new Serenity Suite at the hospital which will be used to help parents hit by baby loss.

Hide AdSporting a variety of colourful outfits, the team were cheered along the way by drivers, with members of the public and drinkers at pubs along the route helping to swell the coffers as they made their way to Thorne.
Cheryl Stafford, one of those who took part in the weekend walk, said: “We stopped off at pubs to get as many donations on our way.
"We thank all those that donated in these hard times. We completed the full 12 mile walk.”
Donations raised currently stand at nearly £2,000 online with £445 collected during the walk.

Hide AdShe added: “Currently women who suffer baby loss at Doncaster Royal Infirmary have to give birth to their sleeping babies on a busy labour ward where they can hear other families celebrating and the cries of infants being born making an already difficult experience even harder.
"A major part of the Serenity Appeal will help us fund a specialist bereavement suite named the Serenity Suite.”
