Doncaster MP and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband supports sustainable fashion event

Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Milliband was the special guest at a project putting sustainable style on the catwalk.

The free three-day Creative Futures event at the St Leger Halls in Stainforth - part of the Remake Learning Project - was a chance for participants to turn old clothes and textiles into stylish new looks, with training and design advice from Estelle Pearce, of Fashion Fusion CIC, a specialist in sustainable fashion, up-cycling and natural dyeing.

There was also support from Jaz Davey of Sketch and Bloom - delivering Eco Fashion Illustration workshops - award-winning film maker Wayne Sables and DJ Ian Byatt, the Project Manager of Doncaster community arts organisation Breaking Beats.

The activities led up to a final fashion show, along with an informal exhibition of garments, photos and films created during the week.

And the big surprise for everybody taking part was the visit from Ed Milliband, the MP for Doncaster North and Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

“We were delighted that Mr Milliband was able to join us and see for himself the way in which people in South Yokshire are embracing the concept of up-cycling and thinking about the environment,” said Estelle.

“In addition, the sessions also provided some great opportunities to find out about careers and training, with advisers from Doncaster Council on hand as well as some potential employers.

“It was a great way to investigate creative courses, volunteering and job pathways, with links to colleges and local businesses to help our guests explore their next steps.”
