Doncaster drivers warned to check before they fill up as new rules come into force for petrol stations
Today (Monday February 2), new rules come into force requiring UK petrol stations to update their fuel prices within 30 minutes of any changes.
The Fuel Finder Scheme has been developed with the aim of gathering and publicly sharing near real-time road fuel price data from all UK motor fuel retailers, thereby making it more accessible for consumers.
The government-backed Fuel Finder website can be utilised by individuals to ensure they're not being overcharged by local stations.
Doncaster drivers are being encouraged to check these prices before filling up to get the best rate near them.

Matt Crole-Rees, who is a motoring expert at Confused.com, said: “Fuel costs remain a major pressure for many households, so greater transparency around petrol and diesel prices is a positive step for drivers. Clearer pricing makes it easier to compare costs between stations and avoid overpaying, particularly when prices can vary significantly even within the same town. “For motorists, this change should help take some of the guesswork out of filling up. Being able to quickly see which stations offer better value means drivers can make more informed decisions and potentially save money over time - especially for those who rely on their car for commuting or family travel.”
He continued: “Fuel prices continue to fluctuate as they have done for a while, so it’s worth checking prices regularly rather than assuming your usual station is the cheapest. Our petrol prices checker helps to do just that, helping drivers keep fuel down in the long run.”
