Paedophile footballer Adam Johnson on suicide watch at Doncaster prison for first anniversary of jailing
Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson will be on suicide watch at a Doncaster prison as he marks the anniversary of his first year behind bars.
The paedophile was locked up for six years in March of last year after he was found guilty of child sex offences.
And prison officers at HMP Moorland will be extra watchful during the upcoming period.
Guards will also employ the help of trusted inmates who are situated on his block to keep an eye on the jailed footballer.
A source told the Mirror: 'The first year in prison is always a trying time and a trigger point for lots of emotions, especially for someone facing a long sentence.
“Yes, it is a year ticked off but also the beginning of another year stretching off into the distance so hardly a cause for celebration."
The former England, Manchester City and Sunderland winger is serving six years in jail for grooming and then engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old fan.
Johnson's trial at Bradford Crown Court heard that he had kissed and sexually touched the girl in his Range Rover, in a secluded spot in County Durham.
