The numbers just don’t work, we can do better

In response to a recent report from our Police and Crime Commissioner in relation to Police numbers I would like to ask a couple of questions.

If we are reducing PCSO numbers and increasing the neighbourhood Team numbers , what have we gained? Nothing.

With 220 new officers across South Yorkshire over a five year period, so an average of 44 per year, how does this compare to numbers leaving, retiring etc? South Yorkshire is made up of Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley, so again an average of 11 per year. Some how the arithmetic does not work. Surely with a £7 million underspend last year we can do more.

Overall a poor result, could do better. Answers please Mr Billings.
