Doncaster people have their say on the prospect of pubs reopening without alcohol in April

With pubs and bars closed due to lockdown restrictions many people are wondering how they will reopen and what changes could be put in place.

A ‘booze-ban’ is currently being discussed by the UK government which would mean pubs could potentially reopen in April – but no alcohol could be served.

We asked our readers if they would still visit their local if this new measure comes into place.

George Smith New, said: “That's like going for a kebab and just getting the pitta bread.”

Dean Critchley, said: “No beer, how can you support a local business that cannot serve what it is supposed to serve.”

Many of our readers felt it just wouldn’t be the same.

Nick Vuckovic, said: “Coffee shops with no coffee, petrol stations with no petrol, schools with no children, swimming pools with no water, cinemas with no films, government with no politicians.”

Simon John Smiths Browne, said: “Nope total waste of time.”It would be like going food shopping at a tyre shop.”

But others want to go out and support small independent businesses.

Cheryl Wallace, said: “Doubt the big pub chains that own the majority would find it viable to open but think I'd support it to keep local trade going and for the change of scenery.”

David Bateman, “I generally only go to the pub for the food anyway.”

Laura Turner agreed, she said: “I don’t go to the pub normally very often but I would do support local business at this difficult time.”

Sandra James pointed out that not everybody is an alcohol drinker.

She said: “It would be good for non-drinkers to actually have the experience of going to the pub without the looks of the staff when you order a fizzy drink and not their alcoholic expensive silly cocktails.”
