North Lindsey College student’s dress is newsworthy

Plan, research and develop an image and present the image to an audience was the creative brief given to the hairdressing and beauty therapy student, Dina Chakimova (31).

A whole bag of newspapers was used to create the end project which was held together by metal strips, staples and was sewn together to create her final piece.

Staff at North Lindsey College - which is attended by students from the Isle - are so impressed by the level 1 student, they have displayed the dress and shoes in the main entrance of the hairdressing and beauty therapy reception at the college.

Dina previously studied in Lithuania and has since came to the UK passing her Entry 3 ESOL qualifications and progressed onto the Level 1 Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy course.

Dina said: “I wanted to create something colourful and different that hadn’t been done before. My fingers were cut when I had finished the dress but I was pleased when it was complete.”

Helen Atkin, lecturer in hair and beauty, commented: “Dina is an outstanding student who has gone over and above expectations for the qualification. I have never seen anything similar, students often play it safe with their creations but Dina really went above expectations and embraced the project. The dress has become a real talking point with our clients and students and we felt we just had to display it. This is the first year we have had a combined hairdressing and beauty therapy course and it has been a real success. Our students can now have the opportunity to study both areas.”

Dina is now looking forward to studying the beauty therapy side of the course in September to compliment her skills already learnt towards her future career.
