Rovers have played Saturday-Tuesday for the last four weeks.

They won two out of eight games during that 25-day period.

Over the next 25 days Doncaster have just four games and no midweek commitments.

But that will not be the cue for McCann to lighten the load on his squad.

'It gives us a chance to work hard,' said Rovers' boss.

'And it gives us a chance to get some proper fitness into group.

'It's not about resting.

'It's not about thinking we've got no midweek games and we'll have a couple of days off.

'It's time to work and time to get up that league.

'We're sitting in a half decent position but we should be a lot higher with some of our performances.

'But if we can keep those performances high '“ like we've shown in the league, probably in every game apart from Southend '“ then we'll keep climbing.'

Doncaster sit seventh in the early League One standings, two places ahead of Saturday's visitors to the Keepmoat Stadium, Luton Town.

While performances in the league have been largely encouraging, defeat against Newcastle United U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night extended Rovers' run without a win to six games in all competitions.

'We've started okay in the league, we've only lost one,' said McCann.

'We need to pick up more wins, first and foremost.

'It'll be a good game. Luton are a good footballing team. We're going to need a lot of energy and a lot of legs.

'Our intensity needs to be a lot better than what we showed on Tuesday night and it will be.'

Rovers are sweating on the fitness of captain Tommy Rowe who limped off against Newcastle with a hamstring problem.

Rowe underwent surgery on his hamstring over the summer, although McCann has said this is a new issue.
