Newborn baby mauled to death by dog in Doncaster horror attack named

The 12-day-old tot who died after being attacked by a dog at house in Woodlands has been named locally as Elon.

A man, 35, and woman, 27, have been arrested following the attack by a family pet in the house in Welfare Road on Sunday.

The baby boy, who has been named in national newspaper reports, was rushed to hospital following the incident at 3.30pm on Sunday but sadly died later in hospital.

The pair have been been arrested on suspicion of gross neglience manslaughter and have been bailed while police investigations continue.

Police vehicles were at the scene throughout Monday while forensics officers pieced together evidence of the tragedy.

Floral tributes have been placed outside the family’s home and there have been numerous tributes to baby Elon on Facebook from upset neighbours and friends.

Both the man and woman currently being quizzed by police posted photos of baby Elon on Facebook following his birth earlier this month.

One eyewitness, who saw the aftermath of the incident, said: “I drove by as the police were removing the dog. It was a big fluffy golden thing. It didn’t look like a dangerous breed.

Police have confirmed that a dog was removed from the premises but have not confirmed if it was destroyed.
