New Lord-Lieutenant for North Lincolnshire

Her Majesty The Queen has appointed Mr Toby Dennis as the next Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, which includes North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, on the retirement of Mr Tony Worth CVO on February 23, 2015.

Toby Dennis (60) has run a range of family businesses in Lincolnshire, including farming and land management, for the last 40 years.

He is Honorary Colonel of The Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force, a member of Lincoln Cathedral Fabric Fund Committee, a patron of the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network and a former member of the committee of the Lincolnshire Branch of Country Land and Business Association.

He served as High Sheriff of the County in 2013-14.

Mr Dennis lives near Lincoln with his wife, Sarah, a daughter and twin sons.

* A Lord-Lieutenant is appointed by Her Majesty for each County in England and Wales and for Greater London.

The Lord-Lieutenant is appointed by the Crown on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The age of retirement is 75.

The Lord-Lieutenant is Her Majesty’s representative in the County and the foremost duty is to uphold the dignity of the Crown. He/she will seek to promote a good atmosphere and spirit of co-operation by the encouragement of voluntary and benevolent organisations and by his/her interest in the industrial and social life of the County. He/she should be aloof from politics in the County and not take part in political activities.

The main duty of the Lord-Lieutenant is to meet and attend Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family on official visits to the County and the preparation and co-ordination of the programme for a Royal Visit.

The Lord-Lieutenant also undertakes duties in connection with the Armed Services, the presentation of medals and awards on behalf of Her Majesty and many civic and social engagements within the County of Lincolnshire.

The office of Custos Rotulorum is usually held by the Lord-Lieutenant. The Custos Rotulorum is the Chief Magistrate in the County and it is his/her duty to ensure that the correct standard of conduct as Magistrate is observed by all Justices of the Peace.

The Lord-Lieutenant also has responsibility for overseeing the appointment of Magistrates.
