A City of Doncaster Council delegation visited Trax Park

The Mayor of Doncaster has given her backing to a supported internship programme on a visit to a local factory.

Their visit provided an opportunity to showcase the transformative impact Supported Internships are having on young people with disabilities across Doncaster.

Supported Internships offer a structured, meaningful route for 18–25‑year‑olds to move from education into paid employment - an essential intervention at a time when Doncaster continues to face a significant NEET challenge.

These programmes are not simply work placements; they are carefully designed pathways that build confidence, independence, and long‑term employability.

Nationally, around 60% of Supported Internships lead to paid work.

Aspirations Doncaster is proud to deliver 100% employment outcomes, with every intern progressing into paid roles of 24+ hours per week, and most securing full‑time positions.

This success is driven by our personalised curriculum, which adapts to each young person’s needs and focuses on communication, self‑advocacy, workplace expectations, and understanding the unwritten rules that shape professional environments.

A spokesperson said: “Our bespoke job‑matching service ensures employers receive candidates who are not only capable but well‑aligned to the role and workplace culture.

“This approach strengthens retention, supports inclusive recruitment, and helps businesses reflect the communities they serve.

“We are grateful to the Mayor, Councillor Farmer, and Mr Golze for recognising the value of this work and for their continued commitment to improving opportunities for SEND young people in Doncaster.

“Their support reinforces the message that inclusive employment is not only possible - it is essential for a thriving, forward‑looking borough.”
