NHS support is available for anyone who has made a new year’s resolution whether to change their diet, quit smoking or increase exercise levels.

As well as a range of support and advice on NHS Choices website www.nhs.uk including diet plans and fitness regimes, residents could be eligible for a free NHS health check to help kick start healthier lifestyles.

To be eligible you must live in North Lincolnshire, be aged between 40 and 74 and not already being treated for pre-existing medical conditions including high blood pressure/cholesterol, stroke, kidney disease, heart problems or diabetes.

The sessions are held at convenient locations out in the community rather than in a traditional health setting. Venues include leisure centres, community centres, libraries, working men’s clubs and at places of work.

They are held on a drop-in basis but appointments are also available. There are Epworth sessions on Friday January 16 and Friday February 20. To book call 01724 292170.

During the health check a nurse measures blood pressure, pulse, weight and height, cholesterol, waist measurement, body mass index and asks lifestyle questions about activity levels and diet. You are then given a score for your risk of developing heart disease over the next 10 years.
