Josh Wale and David Allen ready to upset the odds

Stefy Bull is baffled by the bookies' decision to make Josh Wale the overwhelming underdog for his Commonwealth title fight this weekend.

And he is backing his man to put a few quid in the pockets of those punters ‘in the know’ on Saturday night.

Wale has been rated at 15/1 with some bookmakers for his challenge of Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Gamal Yafai in Leeds.

And trainer and manager Bull cannot believe it.

“I can’t get over that price and I really don’t understand it,” Bull told the Times.

“I know Yafai is fancied but he’s proven nothing yet and he’s never been in there with anyone like Josh.

“Josh is probably the hardest man in British boxing, pound for pound. He can take anything and you don’t shift him.

“He’s never been knocked down and he never looks like getting stopped.

“He’s tough so he’ll take whatever Yafai dishes out.

“And with what we’ve been working on, he’ll be giving plenty out himself.

“This is a fight that Josh can win and I think it’s his time.”

Brampton fighter Wale began training with Bull late last year, looking to fine tune his style in order to win the big fights.

Bull said: “It’s not been a case of going back to the drawing board, it’s about discipline.

“We know he’s tough, we know he’s fast but it was about getting him sticking to his boxing.

“He already had that skill in him. It’s just been about bringing it to the front.

“You’ll see the changes properly for the first on Saturday.”

Another Bull client, Conisbrough heavyweight David Allen is also rated as the underdog for his clash with Dillian Whyte on the same bill.

And Whyte has as many questions to answer as Allen in their highly-anticipated clash according to Bull.

Jamaica-born Whyte is the favourite for the bout, having delivered arguably the toughest test so far to IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and being tipped to reach world level.

But Bull believes there is no real proof the former kickboxing champion is a world class fighter, nor that he will have the beating of Allen.

“There’s a lot of assumptions made about Dillian Whyte because of that Joshua fight but he’s not answered any questions for me yet,” Bull said.

“They talk about him really testing Joshua but he didn’t. He was the first opponent to chin Joshua, fair enough.

“But Joshua dominated the fight and won every round other than the one he got chinned in.

“So is Dillian Whyte world class?

“He might be. But he hasn’t proved that yet.

“He’s good and he’s got plenty of potential but I don’t think people should be pinning all their hopes on him just yet.”

Bull admits he would have liked to see Allen in another bout before facing Whyte later this year.

The 24-year-old has recently switched gyms to join up with the Ingles in Sheffield.

Though he would have preferred to see Allen concentrating on training, he does believe his man can get the win in Leeds later this month.

Bull said: “All I can talk about is what I’ve seen.

“I’m not entirely convinced by Dillian Whyte and I’ve not seen him in the gym.

“I have seen David Allen in the gym and I know what he’s capable of.

“He’s a very good boxer and I would back him, on his day, against any domestic fighter.

“It’s going to be a tough fight. There’s no question about that.

“And I would have liked David to have a bit more time to prepare for it.

“But I think he can beat Whyte.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for an international title and a world ranking.

“If David turns up and gives it everything, he can win it.”
