Isle youngsters urged to stay safe this summer

A six week drive is being headed by Sergeant James Main from the force’s youth engagement team and will see officers working with partners to help communities across the region to address any issues or concerns arising from anti social behaviour (ASB) during the school break.

He said: “We continue to build close working relationships with local organisations, attending community meetings and linking in with our partners to provide a localised approach to delivering activities for young people within each local authority.

“Additional patrols are made in any areas at risk of becoming hot spots, through closely monitored calls for service and close liaison with the authorities’ safer community units.”

However, while there may be a perception that ASB increases over the summer holiday period, in the Humberside force area this isn’t the case.

Of the 18,839 incidents of ASB reported to Humberside Police between June 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015, just 14 per cent (2,693) happened during the summer holidays.

And of these, just 30 per cent (811) were committed by young people.

Sgt Main added: “Concerns that have been raised and addressed in the past have included groups of young people gathering within a local area, anti-social use of motor bikes, and rowdy behaviour.

“We continue to ask residents – and businesses - to report any incidents that affect their quality of life.
