Isle residents urged to look after their health

North Lincolnshire Council is urging people to look after their health and is celebrating National Older People’s Day on October 1 with a range of events to encourage people to keep healthy and active.

There will be a re-launch of the Healthy Communities Group which delivers falls prevention sessions to community groups, and the council has organised these events to spread the message that ‘looking after your health is important at any age’.

People of all ages can get involved in the events that will show people what is on offer throughout North Lincolnshire to keep active and healthy. The events are on:

Wednesday 30 September: Free taster fitness sessions at Riddings Pool, Enderby Road Scunthorpe – Fit Steps at 6.15pm, circuits at 7.15pm and TRX (strength training using ropes) at 8pm. There is no need to book, just drop-in.

Thursday October 1: Talk to the Healthy Communities Group at Scunthorpe Community Wellbeing Hub, Alvingham Road between 10am and 4pm. Get information about how to prevent falls and where to get help if you have already fallen or you are at risk of falling, or if you know of someone who is. Free beginners Pilates session at Scunthorpe Community Wellbeing Hub from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Places are limited and must be pre-booked. Friday October 2: Free bowling taster sessions at Scunthorpe Bowls Centre, Carlton Road, Scunthorpe from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. No need to book, just turn up, have a go and meet new people.

Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for Customer Services, Sport and Leisure, said: “We all need to look after our health, no matter what your age is. These events will show people what sorts of things they can be doing to keep fit and healthy. Not everyone can do the same type of fitness activities, which is why we have a wide variety of activities on offer ranging from classes for those less mobile to classes for people who regularly exercise. There is something for everyone. Pop along to the free sessions and have a go. You may find a class that you really enjoy.”
