Isle ongo bear comes second in mascot race

Taking place at Wetherby Races on Sunday, the Mascot Gold Cup is celebrating its 10th anniversary and as part of the milestone celebrations, the fundraising team at race organisers Sue Ryder were aiming to break the Guinness World Record for most mascots in a race.

The race had 140 participants in total, which exceeded expectations of 100. This was enough to establish a new World Record in the 1km run, which took place before the Mascot Gold Cup itself, although an official announcement has not yet been mentioned.

The Mascot Gold Cup has been held at Wetherby Racecourse since 2006 and has raised almost £300,000 in that time for various charities, including Sue Ryder.

ongo bear spent the weekend limbering up his paws in preparation for the race, and commented: “I’m so proud to have come second in the race, especially since it’s my first time!

“I’m proud to represent ongo and I hope that I’ve done all of my supporters proud too!”
