On Friday, Haxey Gate Golf Club in Misterton held a golf day in memory of Alan Jones of Westwoodside.

Spokesman Rodger Bird said: “Alan passed away recently after putting up a courageous fight against cancer. He was quite the happiest and jovial person you could ever wish to meet both on and off the golf course and it was always a joy to be in his company.

“Because of the character that he was, Friday was a ‘fun day’, Alan wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other way.”

The day included a round of golf, buffet lunch, and prize-giving by Alan’s wife Jayne. All members wore new golf shirts which have been obtained with a special ‘Alan Jones’ logo.

On the day, £271 was raised in aid of Prostrate Cancer UK and special thanks went to all of those people who generously donated prizes and trophies.

Rodger added: “For those taking part in the event, the day really was all about the memory of Alan Jones who was one of the nicest individuals that you could ever wish to meet.

“It was always an absolute pleasure to be in his company.”
