Father of three Alan Rayment from Crowle will be travelling to the former Soviet republic on March 26 to take part in the Vulcanizare Project.

Alan became a double amputee many years ago but has never allowed this to hold him back.

He has remained a positive influence and inspiration to others both in his personal and professional life, organising many charity sports events including bike rides on his adapted trike.

His trip to eastern Europe will see him work alongside people in their community to help build an extension at a school.

The extension will be a classroom where woodwork and metal work will be taught so young people are able to learn the skills to benefit gaining employment.

Alan has had to pay for his own travel costs and now needs to raise £400 towards the cost of building material.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to going out and making a difference.

“I’ve had lots donated so far, Metres to Miles have donated a hat, local people have donated tea, coffee, chocolate bars and gifts for the children.

“Our community have really pulled together again including ladies from The Methodist Chapel.

“It will be tough being out there away from my family but at the same time I know I can inspire people out there and help make them feel amazing and make a difference.

“I am still looking for donations of small tools such as hammers screwdrivers and multi tools.

“Everything that is donated will go over.

“The Pride of The Isle Committee are arranging to send over a parcel to the Pastor in Dancu.”

A spokeman for the project said: “The working party will be working alongside a team of Moldovans to build an extension onto the Vulcanizaire.

“This will be used as a classroom and workshops, where skills in woodwork and metal work will be taught to the young people in order to give them a trade and learn skills which will benefit them in finding employment.

“You do not need to have any building skills. You need just enthusiasm and energy.

“This is an amazing project to be involved with an a unique experience.

“Another working party is being put together for Easter for a village called Poganesti just down the road from Dancu.”

They added: “Christian charity Dancu Tabita has bought a large site in Cioara village, Moldova, which, stage-by-stage, it is converting into facilities to help and bless its community, support Christian ministry and generate jobs and income in this materially deprived region.

“Having opened a community centre in October 2011 as the first phase of development, we are now looking to create small businesses which can contribute towards the ongoing costs of the site, thereby reducing dependency on overseas donations.

“As well as generating a small but steady flow of income, it is hoped that this project will lead to two additional jobs being created.

“Any profit generated will mean that there is less dependency on foreign donations to cover the running costs of the site.

“The village of Dancu in Moldova struggles with a great many things but one of them is lack of employment.”
