La Chambre in Attercliffe Road has been shut since March because of the Covid-19 crisis.
And bosses have said they are unable to tell the club’s thousands of disappointed members when it will be safe to re-open.
A statement said: “Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we are temporarily closed until further notice.
“We are getting a lot of messages asking about reopening.
"As of now it is impossible to reopen. Social distancing mean that our type of clubs cannot open, we are as gutted about that as you are, but it's just how it is and there is nothing we can do right now.
"Please practice social distancing, regular hand washing and shop sensibly. We'll see you on the other side.”
"Missing all you lovely people!! Be safe!”
The former pub first opened its doors as a sex club in 1998 - and attracts some 250 frolicking couples from across the UK each weekend to indulge in swinging, sometimes known as wife swapping.
Husband and wife Barry and Marie Calvert were responsible for opening the club - formerly the Robin Hood pub - on Attercliffe Road and the pair have written books about their escapades at La Chambre which has 20,000 members.
A Las Vegas newspaper once voted the private club as the third best visitor attraction in the world. Top was the Grand Canyon.
