The anniversary of Victory over Japan in World War Two will be marked with a special online film as well as a two minute silence on the steps of the Mansion House on Saturday at 11am.

It commemorates the day Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, ending the war.

Mayor Ros Jones and Coun Wray will observing the two minute silence at 11am and a single piper will play ‘The Battles O’er’.

Coun Wray said: “With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it is still not appropriate to organise a big celebration event for this 75th anniversary of V-J Day, however we have produced a film to show how much we value and respect everyone who has played a vital role in our armed forces and the invaluable contribution they have made to our great country.”

Ros Jones said: “It is important we continue to pay tribute to the bravery of our war heroes especially during these trying times. We can still thank them and ensure their service and sacrifice is honoured and always remembered. I encourage people to take a moment on Saturday at 11am to mark this historic day.”
