Homes staff donate Christmas presents to vulnerable families in North Lincolnshire

CafeIndie on Scunthorpe’s High Street wanted to create shoeboxes of presents for families who would possibly end up with no presents this Christmas.

A group of staff from North Lincolnshire Homes heard about their idea and wanted to get involved so organised £150 worth of presents to add to the collection.

Cafe-Indie has also received donations from members of the public and other local organisations. The presents will be given to families who need them the most through local agencies just before Christmas.

Paul Grimley, Senior Housing Officer at North Lincolnshire Homes said: “Giving back to local communities is our promise and as staff we believe this is important too. When we heard about CafeIndie’s shoebox appeal, we knew we had to help. We have a Social Committee so we used money collected over the year to buy the presents to make sure the most vulnerable families can benefit from them.”

Dave Plumtree, Project Co-ordinator at CafeIndie has been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, he said: “The response from everyone has been amazing. We’ve had support from local organisations such as North Lincolnshire Homes but also members of the public. Parents have been visiting with their children to leave presents which the kids have chosen themselves to give.”
