Hillsborough is runaway winner in vote to find Sheffield's best building

Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium has been named as the city's best loved building in an online vote.

The Owls' ground was runaway winner in the poll - easily beating Sheffield United's Bramall Lane stadium in our vote which saw the Blades' home ground secure runners-up spot.

Readers had their say on twenty of the city's best known buildings and iconic places - and football fans made sure the Steel City's two much-loved stadiums emerged on top with Wednesday claiming nearly 600 votes - almost 500 ahead of the number of votes cast for United.

Sheffield Town Hall secured third place, narrowly beaten by Bramall Lane while fourth spot went to Sheffield City Hall.

Food fans ensured the former Henderson's Relish factory in Leavygreave Road polled enough votes to take fifth place.

Beauchief Abbey was the city's least popular building from the 20 selected for the poll.
