Haxey Great War exhibition attracts interest

An Isle exhibition on the Great War and its effect on Haxey Parish was very well supported.

The event last weekend was opened by Isle MP Andrew Percy and introduced by Haxey and Westwoodside Heritage Society President Norma Neill.

Refreshments, along with the exhibition itself, were supplied free of charge as a gift to the Parish to honour those who fought and should be remembered, said Mrs Neill.

Mr Percy toured the exhibits and watched a video created by George Fiddler on the local effects of the Great War in the Isle.

Union Jacks and bunting added atmosphere to the Haxey Memorial Hall. One popular display was a collection of militaria by Jules Moss. Other individuals showed research on servicemen ancestors and included the stories behind the exhibits.

A Church Roll of Honour to the fallen was loaned by the Rev Jeremy Green of Haxey Church.

A Heritage Society biographical file on all servicemen who died that was donated to churches, schools and organisations in 2010 was also shown.

Due to increasing demand, the video is to be re-run in the near future.
