Rovers took some time to settle into their friendly with Grimsby Town on Tuesday night as they get to grips with McCann’s wishes for the style of play.

While admitting there is still plenty of improvement to be had, McCann refuted the suggestion Rovers would take some time to get going in League One in the coming campaign.

“No, I don’t think that will be the case,” McCann told the Free Press.

“I think they’ve got it. I think they understand it.

“I think they enjoy it as well.

“If you speak to any of the boys now they could tell you the way we want to play and what we want to do inside out.

“So, it’s about just delivering it now.

“There’s no excuses.

“I’m not going to be hiding the fact that I’m new into the building or this or that.

“We’ve just got to go and deliver it.

“I’m always honest, I’m always open and we’ve got to deliver the results on the stage.

“And it comes around at the end of next week.”

Rovers begin their campaign at Southend United next Saturday.
