Funeral of newborn baby mauled to death by dog in Doncaster takes place

The private service for Elon Jase Ellis-Joynes took place at an undisclosed location in Doncaster earlier today with no media present.
Elon died in hospital on September 13 after being attacked by family pet Teddy, a Chow Chow crossbreed, at the family’s home in Welfare Road, Woodlands.

Hide AdThe baby’s parents, dad Stephen Joynes, 35, and Abigail Ellis, 27, have both been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
They have both been bailed while investigations into the tragedy continue.
Last week, an inquest into Elon’s death was opened by Doncaster Coroner Nicola Mundy so the funeral could take place.
The hearing at Doncaster Coroner’s Court heard the dog, which escaped from an outside pen, mauled 12 day old Elon while his mother was on the toilet and his father was outside with another child.

Hide AdElon, born on September 1, was rushed to hospital from the house in but was pronounced dead a short time later, sparking a police investigation.
Coroner Mundy said: "I am aware that there is an ongoing investigation and I adjourn this inquest until matters are investigated."
A police spokesman said that the dog was removed from the address and will remain in secure kennels until the force's inquiries have been completed.
A number of floral tributes were left outside the family home in the aftermath of the attack while friends, relatives and neighbours paid tribute to the tragic tot on social media.
