Free 'preparing for adulthood' day for Doncaster SEND people
The event is being hosted by City of Doncaster Council
A free “Preparing for Adulthood” event for Doncaster’s SEND and neurodivergent young people is to be held.
City of Doncaster Council is hosting the event onTuesday 29 September at Club Doncaster Sports Village, formerly the Eco Power Stadium to help SEND and neurodivergent young people prepare for adulthood.
The event is specifically for young people aged 14-25 with a learning difficulty or who are neurodivergent, as well as their families or carers, and forms part of the council’s Great 8 priorities.
The event will be a collaboration between local and national organisations and charities, with professionals on hand to equip Doncaster’s young people with skills and options to create a bright future.
There will be two sessions, the first for Schools is 12:30-3pm and the second session for young people, parents and carers will be 3-6pm.
Following feedback from 2024 and 2025 events, the council has introduced a range of enhancements to ensure the event is tailored to the needs of young people:
- interactive activities
- dedicated sensory spaces
- quiet breakout areas
Families and young people will be able to meet a wide range of organisations and professionals on the day that provide dedicated support and opportunities across Doncaster, as well as covering the pillars of Preparing for Adulthood - education, employment and training, independence and housing, community inclusion and health.
Cabinet Member for Equalities, Education and Skills, Sue Farmer said: “Building on the success of previous years events, I am thrilled that the City of Doncaster Council and its partners can once again host this event.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people with SEND and their families to explore the wide range of options available to them as they prepare for adulthood.
“The event brings together so many organisations in one place from health, to housing, next steps after school or college and much more, to help young people make informed choices and feel confident about the future.”
